21 days National level advanced training course on “Hands on Training in Specialized Procedures in Veterinary Anesthesia and Surgery” concluded at Department of Veterinary Surgery and Radiology, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana. This Department is recognized as Center of Advanced Faculty Training by the ICAR in which the teachers, scientists and faculty of different state agricultural and veterinary universities are trained on veterinary surgery, diagnostic imaging and anesthetic procedures.
Dr. SNS Randhawa, Director of Research, GADVASU was the chief guest on the concluding function. Dr. Randhawa congratulated the faculty members for organizing this important event and encouraged the participants to submit collaborative research proposals for funding. Dr. S.P.S. Sangha, Dean Students Welfare was guest of honor for this function.
Dr J. Mohindroo, Director of the training course informed that during this training program, hands on training was provided to the participants on the specialized techniques of anesthesia and surgery in various species of animals such as cattle, buffaloes, horse, dog, cat etc. At GADVASU we have an advanced infrastructure and highly qualified faculty for imparting such trainings he added. Renowned surgeons from all over India were also invited to interact with the trainees. Dr D.B. Patil (Gujarat), Dr M Raghunath (Andhra Pradesh), Dr Senthil Kumar (Tamilnadu) and Dr AK Sharma (UP) were among the experts invited.
Dr S.K. Mahajan coordinator of the training programme said that the training was designed to promote the skills of surgeons from all over India so that they can go back to their respective states and apply the skills for benefit of the farmers and pet owners. 20 participants from 13 states of India attended the training. It is worth mentioning that varsity has pioneered in large animal ultrasonography and large animal general anesthesia for horses, cattle and buffaloes he added.
Dr Pallavi Verma, another coordinator of the training programme informed that specialized procedures like cataract surgery in dog, colic surgery in horses and advanced imaging techniques like MRI were discussed during this training programme. Dr Verma said that a manual for ready reference has been compiled and CD containing the lectures have been distributed to the participants.
