Meeting of Dairy Welfare Association (DWA) was organized at the campus of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana. Around 120 dairy farmers from different corners of the state participated in this meeting. Dr Parminder Singh coordinator of DWA told that two technical lectures were delivered by University Experts. The first lecture delivered by Dr Ajeet Kumar dealt with the quality of semen which is being employed for inseminating our dairy animals. The second lecture was related with characteristics (of bull whose semen is to be used)which are to be kept in mind while getting one’s animals inseminated at the time of breeding which was delivered by Dr Raman Narang. Dr Harish Kumar Verma, Director Extension Education of GADVASU, highlighted all the facilities available at the University. He assured the farmers to provide complete support from the University in the hour of crisis. The meeting was also addressed by Dr Inderjeet Singh, Director, Dairy Development Department, Punjab. He stressed on the need of exposing the persons who are engaged in the business of adulterating milk. He also advised progressive farmers to educate scientific manners and practices of experts to other farmers of their villages who are unable to move out due to any reason. In this way, the socio-economic condition of those farmers could be improved and it will definitely bring down the miseries of the farming community in the state. He insisted that
the new farmers who want to start dairying as a business should get first hand practical training at the existing farm. It will help them to get loan facility from banks of financial institutions. The president of the Association S. Jagdeep Singh pointed out certain difficulties faced by dairy farmers of the state. These difficulties were pertaining to adulteration of milk and animal feed, electricity bills and marketing of milk. He also proposed the vote of thanks.
