A seven member delegation from Nuffield global farming scholars which includes the Scholar Farmers from countries like Australia, New Zealand and Brazil visited Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animals Sciences University Ludhiana.
Dr SNS Randhawa, gave a brief introduction of GADVASU and its different research activities to the delegates. Dr Simrat Sagar Singh, Dean Post Graduate studies revealed the functioning of university in the term of higher education. Dr Sushil Prabhakar, Registrar described the important and vital international collaborations and exchange programmes. The meeting was attended by senior faculty members of the varsity.
To get the information about aquaculture Abby Mckibben, Product Manager, Huon Aquaculture Group Limited asked about type of culture system of fisheries in Punjab, its status, Species, Feed, Management, Water quality, Marketing and Value addition. Dr Vaneetinder Kaur told that presently, over 13000 ha area is under aquaculture in the state, with an average productivity of 6 t/ha/yr, which is highest in the Nation. Carps are the major species. With value addition, ready to cook and ready to eat products can be developed, by which sale and price can be enhanced. GADVASU is providing trainings to the farmers on every aspect of fish culture.
Team also took a round of university dairy farm. They learnt about the different species of cow and buffalo, their management practices, yield and prevailing local system of dairy business.
The team members showed keen interest to see the facilities in University laboratory and research work going on in the university especially in school of Animal Biotechnology.
