International workshop on advanced epidemiologic methods starts at School of Public Health & Zoonoses, GADVASU

Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana has signed a “Memorandum of Understanding” with University of Sydney, Australia for collaborative research and to facilitate training of faculty and students. To extend the mutual collaboration, School of Public Health and Zoonoses is organising a three days “International Workshop on Epidemiologic Study design and data analysis” in collaboration with The University of Sydney, Australia from April 13-15, 2015 in the School of Public Health & Zoonoses, GADVASU for the faculty and PG students of GADVASU. Dr JPS Gill, Organising Secretary of workshop and Director, School of Public Health & Zoonoses informed that there is great enthusiasm among participants and about 90 participants including young faculty and post graduate students will be receiving hands-on training on cutting edge epidemiologic techniques.  During this workshop, Dr Navneet Dhand, Sub Dean Research Development and Senior Lecturer from the University of Sydney, Australia and Hannah Rebecca Holt from the Royal Veterinary College, London will train participants in advanced epidemiologic tools and techniques. They will also discuss approaches to improve validity of observational studies and clinical trials for improving the rigour of the research being conducted at GADVASU to internationals standards.

The International Workshop was inaugurated today by Dr SNS Randhawa, Director of Research, GADVASU for training faculty and students of the university. Dr Randhawa congratulated the scientists for this endeavour and hoped that it will result in productive research in veterinary and animal sciences. He asked the participants to make the best use of this opportunity to improve their research designing and enquiry skills. Dr Dhand in his inaugural lecture exhorted the participants to use these techniques for solving real-life problems being faced by farmers and for improving animal health and welfare. Dr Gill welcomed the participants and facilitators and explained that this international workshop is being organised as a part of a collaborative ‘one-health’ project implemented by GADVASU and University of Sydney, Australia to improve health of the livestock and the people in contact with the livestock. On first day participants were given training for designing of research experiment for field studies suitable for international publications. Then the participants in small groups designed experiments and their study designs were presented and discussed for its improvement. Dr BB Singh Co-Principal Investigator of project acted as moderator of this workshop.
