Scientists from School of Public Health and Zoonoses, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) won numerous accolades in the XIII Annual conference of Indian Association of Veterinary Public Health Specialists (IAVPHS). This National Symposium was on “Safety of Food of Animal Origin for Domestic and Export Markets: Legal Perspectives” held at Karnataka Veterinary Animal and Fisheries Sciences University, Bangalore. Out of five prizes awarded each year by IAVPHS, four awards were bagged by GADVASU faculty.
Dr. JPS Gill, Director, School of Public Health & Zoonoses was a panelist in a brain storming session on the food safety laws and regulations. He was also selected for “Dr. AT Sherikar Outstanding Public Health Veterinarian Award” for his significant academic and research contributions in the field of Zoonoses, Food Safety and Quality Control and Environmental Hygiene. The award will be presented in the next forthcoming conference of IAVPHS. He also presented lead paper on Current status of antibiotic residues in India and its impact on human health.
Dr. Simranpreet Kaur, Assistant Professor won “Dr. SP Singh Best Research Paper Award” for her paper on Group A Rotaviruses in humans and animals. Dr. Abhishek Gaurav under the mentorship of Dr. JPS Gill won “Dr. VN Bachhil Young Scientist award” for his Ph.D research work on antibiotic residues. Dr. Lokesh KM, Ph.D scholar bagged the best poster award for the research work jointly conducted on Japanese Encephalitis.
Apart from this, Dr. JPS Gill was re-elected as Vice- President of the Indian Association of Veterinary Public Health Specialists (IAVPHS) for tenure of three years. Two Assistant Professors of the department; Dr. Simranpreet Kaur and Dr. JS Bedi were elected as Members of Executive Committee of IAVPHS.
