Vet Varsity gets All India Network programme (AINP) worth 4 crores

The Department of Veterinary Surgery & Radiology, GADVASU, Ludhiana has bagged prestigious All India Network Programme (AINP) on “Diagnostic Imaging and Management of Surgical Affections in Animals.” Dr. N.S. Saini, Professor-cum-Head is the Principal Investigator (PI) of this AINP project.

During a meeting at Krishi Bhawan, New Delhi, Dr. KML Pathak, Deputy Director General (Animal Sciences) ICAR mentioned that the Department of Veterinary Surgery & Radiology, GADVASU, Ludhiana is one of the Collaborating Centre of this network program. He further added that this is the first ever Network Program given by Indian Council of Agricultural Research in the area of Veterinary Clinical Sciences.

Under this program the department has been sanctioned worth Rs 3.97 crores during XIIth five year plan. Various advanced imaging and surgical facilities like CT-scan unit, ultrasonographic unit, endoscopic unit etc. will be established through this program.

Dr. NS Saini told that Department of Veterinary Surgery & Radiology, GADVASU, Ludhiana is also a Centre of Advanced Faculty Training (CAFT) sanctioned since 1994 by the ICAR. Every year CAFT is organizing advanced training program for the scientists and teachers of various State agricultural/ Veterinary Universities and ICAR institutes in which scientists are trained on latest advancements in the field of veterinary anesthesia, imaging and surgery.

Dr Saini Further told that Department of Surgery and Radiology is running, one Department of Science & Technology project on ophthalmic diseases, one UGC project on Doppler Ultrasonography and four RKVY projects on equine colic, large animal orthopedics, bovine anaesthesia and Large animal Ultrasonography. Department is also running another State funded scheme on musculoskeletal and gastrointestinal disorders in bovine.

The Department has pioneered in the development of large animal surgery, anaesthesia, orthopedics and ultrasonography. Network project allocation to the department will further enhance the capability in term of Teaching, Research, Human Resource Development (HRD) and service to livestock and pet animal owners.

On this occasion Dr SNS Randhawa Director of research and Dr PD Juyal, Registrar congratulated and praised the faculty for the good work being done in the areas of Diagnostic imaging and Surgery at GADVASU.
