National level advanced training course commences in Department of Surgery and Radiology at Vet Varsity

Department of Veterinary Surgery and Radiology at Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences University , Ludhiana is organizing a 21 days, National level advanced training course on “Current Trends in Veterinary Surgery and Imaging Techniques” under the aegis of Center of Advanced Faculty Training (CAFT), ICAR. Dr. SNS Randhawa, Director Research cum Dean PGS, GADVASU, who is also co-ordinator of CAFT programme inaugurated the training.

Dr NS Saini, Director CAFT who is also Professor-cum-Head of the Department informed that twenty five scientists from 13 states of India are participating in this training course. During this 21 days event, hands on training will be provided to the participants on the latest developments in anesthesia, surgery and diagnostic imaging in veterinary practice. He informed that department of Surgery and Radiology is running one project on ophthalmic diseases, one UGC project on Ultrasonography and three projects on equine colic, large animal orthopedics and bovine anaesthesia. Department is also running one State funded scheme on musculoskeletal and Gastrointestinal disorders in bovine.

During the training participants will be trained about advances in large and small animal fracture repair by bone plating, intermedullary interlock nailing and C-arm guided techniques for fracture fixation. Surgical management of ophthalamic diseases, diaphragmatic hernia in cow and buffaloes, urinary tract disorders and other soft tissue procedures will be demonstrated under inhalant anaesthetic procedures. Diagnosis of various surgical affections by computerized radiography, ultrasonographic and ultrasound guided biopsy procedures will be discussed. Faculty members and experts from other state universities have been invited to deliver expert lectures and practical demonstration during the training programme.

During inaugural ceremony, Dr. SNS Randhawa congratulated the faculty members for organizing big event and encouraged the faculty for the excellent work being done in the fields of Veterinary Surgery and Radiology. He made the participants aware about the latest developments and research contributions of the department for upliftment of the standards of veterinary diagnostics and therapeutics at National and International levels.

Dr. Harpal Singh Sandhu Dean, College of Vet. Sc.told that the Centre of Advanced Studies was established in the department of Surgery and Radiology in the year 1994. In 2009 the centre was renamed as Centre of Advanced Faculty Training by the ICAR. Till date the department has conducted 26 advanced training courses on various topics and trained 338 Scientists/Surgeons/Teachers from various Universities,ICAR Institutes.

Dr S.S. Singh, Professor, proposed vote of thanks during the function and informed that a compendium of lectures and presentations of the experts will be   compiled for the ready reference of the participants.
