68th Independence Day was celebrated at Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana with great enthusiasm. Dr. VK Taneja, Vice–Chancellor, GADVASU unfurled the National Flag at 8.35 am in the University premises. He inspected the 1st Pb. R & V squadron of NCC Cadets. Dr.Taneja, firstly paid rich tributes to all those who fought for country’s freedom. He said that we all must remember and salute them. In his address, Vice Chancellor highlighted the main points of president’s address and commitments of Prime Minister’s speech.
Dr. Taneja revealed that GADVASU vision-2030 was released in this year. It will give a torch light to develop university in a holistic manner. He highlighted the MoU signed with Dayanand Medical College to address the public health and environmental issues. After monitoring the progress of varsity NABARD awarded ‘Partnership Excellence Award to the university. He said that our focus in research is on value addition, quality control and by-products technology development. He said that technology transfer is the key for livestock improvement and the GADVASU proposes to reach farmers and industry to provide the technologies. Dr Taneja informed that research in the field of fisheries providing more production and addition of new varieties in Punjab. To strengthen the facilities of University three new ‘Krishi Vigyan Kendras’ at Tarn Taran, Barnala and Mohali are now functional.
He said that 75 research projects earned from different research institutes and bodies are operational.He said that we are working very hard to make this institution of world fame through advanced computer networking, appropriate Lab renovations as well Ultra Modern Library along with other necessary amenities. Dr. Taneja said that new infrastructure was developed at College of Dairy Science & Technology, College of fisheries, School of Animal Biotechnology, Veterinary Hospital and KVK’s. He explained the achievements of different Directorates and Departments. He mentioned different projects, conferences, workshops and seminars. He highlighted the achievements of students at different academics and extracurricular platforms. University has raised more than Rs.one crore in corpus fund.
Dr. Taneja while explaining the future targets vowed that imparting quality education and dissemination of knowledge/technologies/practices at farmer’s door step to enhance profitability from dairying, fisheries, piggery, poultry and goat will be top priorities. The economical viability of dairy sector can be further improved by value added milk products.
An impressive cultural programme was organized by students and staff members of varsity.The function was attended by Officers of the GADVASU, Heads of Departments, faculty, staff and students. The celebration was concluded with National Anthem.
