The World Veterinary Association created World Veterinary Day in 2000 as an annual celebration of the veterinary profession, falling on the last Saturday of April.On this occasion, free anti-rabies and deworming camp for pets was organized at veterinary hospital of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU). The Vice-Chancellor of GADVASU, Dr. V. K. Taneja inaugurated the camp. Speaking at the function, Dr. Taneja highlighted the role of veterinarians in animal welfare and encouraged the veterinarians, teachers and students to work hard to mitigate the suffering of animals. He said that Veterinarians, in their many professional roles, are constantly involved in the complex interactions between people and animals, including the human-animal bond. “In the camp, about 200 pets were dewormed and given anti-rabies vaccine” as conveyed by Dr. P. S. Mavi, Head, Department of the Teaching Veterinary Clinical Complex. Scientific presentations related to animal welfare were also made. The function was attended by the University officers, head of the departments, faculty members, undergraduate and post-graduate students and pet owners. Pharmaceutical companies including Indian Immunologicals and Intas also participated in the function.
