NSS Units of GADVASU Planted Herbal/Medicinal Saplings in the Herbal Garden of KVM

NSS units of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana in collaboration with Society for Conservation of Flora & Fauna (SCFF) took part in the beautification of Kundan Vidya Mandir School campus and planted 22 different types of plant species in KVM herbal garden. More than 85 herbal/medicinal saplings were planted in herbal garden of KVM school campus by involving 90 students under the supervision of Dr Syed Shabih Hassan, NSS Programme Coordinator, GADVASU. Dr. Hassan interacted with the students, members of ECO-club and expressed his views on the importance of plantation works and explained benefits of herbal/medicinal plants in human lives as well as for beautification and improving the health of surrounding campus environment. He emphasized on the sense of responsibility among the students and active actions in the maintenance of plants, flowers, gardens, campus, hedges, lawns, deweeding school ground and irrigation works in the other learning/educational institutions. It is learning practical experience for the students who were instructed to encourage neighboring residents to plant trees on important or special occasions of their life and care new trees as well. Varieties of herbal/medicinal saplings were provided by SCFF and NSS units of GADVASU. The Plants sapled by volunteers were Psoralea corylifolia (Babchi), Rouvolfia serpentine (Sarpagandha), Murraya koenigii (Curry Patta), Barleria prionitis (Vajradanti), Commiphora wightii (Gugal), Withania somnifera (Ashvagandha), Vinca rosea (Sadabahar), Stevia rebaudiana (Stevia), Ocimum sanctum (Holy basit), Ocimum basilicum (Niazbotulsi), Mimosa pudica (Lajwanti), Jatropha gossypifolia (Jamalgota), Glycyrrhiza glabra (Mulathi), Citronella winterianus (Citronella), Cymbopogon flexuosus (Lemon grass), Cymbopogon pendulus (Lemon grass), Asparagus sps. (Satawar), Aloe vera (Aloe), Andrographis paniculata (Kalmegh), Tinospora cordifolia (Giloe), Vitex negundo (Nirgundi).  Members of KVM school ECO-club, many school teachers, Vice-Principal, Madam Sayal and Principal of KVM school, Dr Navita Puri were also present on the occasion. Mrs Anupama, Ms Deepti, Science & Environment teacher and KVM gardeners provided cooperation during plantation work.
