A five day training Programme on “Scientific Pig Management” under the auspices of “Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana” was organized jointly by the Department of Livestock Production Management and the Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension Education of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU).
At the concluding function Dr Harish Verma, Professor, Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension Education, said that GADVASU since its inception is helping the farmers through trainings and inputs of scientific know-how for motivating the youth and progressive farmers to adopt pig farming on scientific terms. He also endorsed that Varsity is providing free trainings facilities to the women entrepreneurs. The Technical Advisor of the Training Programme, Dr. Chandrahas, Assistant Professor, Department of Livestock Production Management, stressed that strategic pig marketing is the key for the success of commercial pig farming in the state of Punjab.
Forty one trainees including one woman participated in this training programme. During the five days training programme, farmers were exposed to different aspects of breeds and breeding, housing, nutrition, health, general management, post-harvest technology, economics, marketing etc. for better adoption of pig farming on scientific line to generate livelihood. They were also exposed to different aspects of pig management through practical demonstrations and guided farm visit at Pig Breeding Farm, Kotli, Ludhiana.
Dr H. K. Verma distributed certificates to all the participants. This five days training programme was coordinated by Dr. Mandeep Singla, Assistant Animal Scientist, Department of Livestock Production Management.
