GADVASU PhD Scholar achieves Most Prestigious Doctoral Scholarship

Dr. Rajesh V. Wagh, a doctorate student of Department of Livestock Products Technology, GADVASU, bags a prestigious scholarship in the World for Doctoral research studies awarded by Finnish Government. He bags this scholarship competing with the participants from 25 countries including USA, Australia, Italy, France, Greece etc. In this scholarship, he will work on the utilization of bioactive compounds for the extension of storage life of functional frankfurters. He will carry out his work with Professor Per Ertbjerg, Laboratory of Meat Science and Technology, Department of Agriculture and Environment Sciences, University of Helsinki, Finland, which falls in top 100 universities of the world and ranked at 73rd position.  His major advisor Dr Manish Kumar Chatli, Professor-cum- Head of the department informed that he will visit Finland for 7 months to carry out the part of his doctoral research work. Finnish Government will provide him laboratory support, a generous stipend and other resources. His research work has already been recognized for presentation in 59th International Congress of Meat Science & Technology (ICOMST, 2013) from 18-23 August, 2013 at Izmir, Turkey. Dr Manish Kumar Chatli has also been invited to deliver an oral presentation on ‘Bioactive antimicrobial films for the extension of storage life of meat products’ in ICOMST, 2013 at Turkey.  Dr S.N.S. Randhawa, Dean Post Graduate Studies said that this is recognition of the work being carried out in GADVASU, which has world class infrastructure and facilities. He has further emphasized that this scholarship will not only increase the vision of the participant as well as provides an opportunity to learn new advance techniques to know the intricacies of meat science.

Department of Livestock Products Technology is conducting world class pioneer work in the various areas of Meat and Egg Science including low-cost processing, preservation, environment friendly packaging, health oriented meat products, value added meat and egg products and their quality evaluation.  In addition, department is regularly conducting various training programmes through Department of Animal Husbandry and Extension for the farmers, unemployed youth and budding entrepreneurs on the processing of livestock products.
