GADVASU Surgeons bag National Awards

Surgeons of Department of Veterinary Surgery and Radiology, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences University participated and presented research papers in the 36th annual congress. The congress was of Indian Society for Veterinary Surgery and International symposium on Ruminant Surgery in Polyclinics, Co-operative Dairies and Shelters: Perspective 2020 held at Anand Agricultural University, Anand, Gujarat.
Dr Narinder Singh Saini, Professor and Head, received the prestigious RPS Tyagi Oration Award at the National Congress and presented a Oration on “Decision Making in Equine Colic Patients” during the inaugural function. This award is given to Dr Saini in recognition of significant contribution made by him for the advancement of Veterinary Surgery in India.
Dr Simrat Sagar Singh, Professor, presented a Theme Paper on “Ruminant Surgery” and Dr Jitender Mohindroo, Associate Professor presented a Lead Paper on “Ultrasonography as a preliminary screening tool for thoraco-abdominal disorders in ruminants” during the congress.
The two research articles bagged the Gold medal for the best papers, one entitled “Evaluation of colour Doppler sonography for predicting reducibility of intussusception in dogs” presented by Dr J. Mohindroo and   coauthored by Jasmine Kaur, S.K. Mahajan, M. Raghunath and Tarunbir Singh in Radiology and Imaging Techniques Session. Another entitled “Blood gas, acid base and electrolyte changes during diazepam, midazolam premedication and halothane, isoflurane maintenance in bovine subjected to diaphragmatic herniorrhaphy” presented by Dr Tarunbir Singh and coauthored by Harmanjeet Singh, M. Raghunath, J. Mohindroo, P. Verma, NS Saini and SS Singh was awarded gold medal for the best research article in the anesthesiology session of the congress. An appreciation award for the second best presentation of the small animal surgery session was also given to the paper entitled “Diagnosis and surgical management of thoracic trauma in dogs” presented by Dr Jitender Mohindroo and coauthored by P. Verma, SS Singh, M. Raghunath and Tarunbir Singh.  

          Dr N.S. Saini, Head, Department of Surgery and Radiology, congratulated the winners of Gold medals and appreciation awards and said that the surgeons from GADVASU have excelled in the field of Surgery and Radiology and such awards will encourage the faculty members and post graduate students to work harder for the welfare of the animals. Dr Saini further said that Department earlier also bagged many national and international awards and developed many new techniques that helped in the efficient diagnosis and treatment of animals.
