The scientists of animal disease research center, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and animal sciences university, Ludhiana recorded the outbreak of Foot and mouth disease and Hemorrhagic septicemia in cows and buffaloes in some parts of Punjab. In this context Dr.MP Gupta HOD Animal Disease Research Center said that the farmers are advised to vaccinate their animals against above diseases regularly after every 6 months in consultation with veterinary office of nearest govt. civil veterinary hospital. Foot and mouth disease cause heavy economic loss by reducing milk yield, calf mortality, lameness and repeat breeding. During outbreak do not purchase new animals from cattle mandis. Each animal above 3 month of age should be vaccinated in the dairy farm with disposable syringe and needle under cold chain. The vaccine should always be kept in refrigerator at 8˚C. The vaccine should never be allowed to freeze. The frozen vaccine must be discarded. The farmers are advised to check the expiry date and dose on the vaccine vial. During outbreak vaccination of the healthy animal is recommended. Interstate transfer of animal must be vaccinated before entering the Punjab state.
The farmers are also advised to vaccinate their dairy animal against Black Quarter every year from nearest Govt. civil veterinary hospital.
The farmers should vaccinate only female cow calves and buffalo calves against brucellosis with inj. Bruvax. Within 4 to 8 month of age in consultation with Veterinary officer of nearest civil vety. hospital. Sheep and goat farmer should vaccinate their animals against PPR in consultation with Veterinary officer of nearest civil vety. hospital. The farmers are also advised to get the faecal sample tested for coccidiosis and strongyles from the district poly clinic or GADVASU, Ludhiana
Swine farmers are advised to vaccinate their animals against swine fever in consultation with Veterinary officer of nearest civil Vety hospital. Farmers are also advised to use tick control medicine (Acaricide) regularly twice a month in consultation with Veterinary officer of nearest civil vety. hospital.
