Training on value addition of meat products concludes at Vet. Varsity

Department of Livestock Products Technology, College of Veterinary Sciences, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Ludhiana organized a Hands-on-training programme ‘Awareness on production of safe meat and value added meat products’ on 22-23rd November, 2011 for the benefits of the farmers and small entrepreneurs. Dr S.S. Randhawa, Director of Research inaugurated the training and impressed upon the participants that they should adopt the animal husbandry as a profession and can increase their income through the sale of value added meat products. He also raised the issue of unhygienic conditions in meat slaughtering and dressing which can lead to various diseases to the consumers.
Dr Jhari Sahoo, Head of the department told the participants that meat production in India is increasing at the rate of 10% and the demand for the ready-to-eat meat products such as meat koftas, meat patties, sausages etc are increasing due to urbanization. Dr Manish Kumar Chatli told the participants that they can adopt this as small ventures for good earning and university will provide them the consultancy services free of cost. He also told them that various financial institutions are providing soft loans for starting these types of ventures. He along with Dr A.K. Biswas delivered lecture-cum-practical demonstration of preparation of cut-up-parts of chicken, preparation of meat pickle, meat loaves, meat patties and meat sausages. The participants showed keen interest in the training and were enthusiastic to adopt as a profession.
