To check the menace of indiscipline and usage of intoxicants amongst the inmates of hostels the Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University initiated a novel effort. A cricket tournament was organised by dividing players of all the hostels in 12 Teams. Dr. Parkash Singh Brar, warden Hostel No.3 and 9 said that we put fine on any type of indiscipline. The amount collected in this way has been used for the welfare of the students or on hostel sports events. Last time we installed an RO water filter for hostel inmates. The Purchased article gives benefit to student as well as daily use of that also develop a feeling, not to repeat any other mischief or indiscipline. Further Dr. Brar explained that Dr. V.K. Taneja V C & Dr. K.S. Sandhu DSW cum EO are very kind to provide funds for hostel amenities. They are of the opinion that it is their real home of students as they spent the pinnacle of their youth in hostels. In this course now mess and canteen are under renovation. These will come in a new look after some days.
Harpreet Singh, Editor & PRO of the university said that positive motivation for the Youngster is the only mool mantra for the healthy and clean society. He said that Youthfulness is a very slippery age and strong & amicable relations with teachers support students to kindle their positive spirits. He emphasized that this type of practice develops a bonding in seniors and juniors and will inculcate disciplinary values in students by alienating them from liquor and intoxicants consumption. This type of tournament channelizes their energy in a positive manner. He gave away the prizes to the winning team, best bowler and best batsman of the tournament.
Students showed their full vigour in the final match. The supporters bucked up the players from the balconies of the hostel rooms, students vowed that they will lead an ethical life.
Dr Mandeep Singh Dhami and Sandeep Bhullar coordinated the tournament. Dr. P .N. Dwivedi president Dance Drama & Music club also attended the function.
