GADVASU Celebrates World Veterinary Day

World Veterinary Day which is celebrated on the last Saturday of April every year all over the world. It was celebrated by Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana on 25/04/09 at silver jubilee block, to celebrate their diverse and occasionally overlooked roles in the community which they serve. The theme of this year is Veterinarian & Livestock Farmers-A Winning Partnership. The function highlighted the pivotal role, veterinarian playing between livestock and society in general.Dr. Simrat Sagar Singh, Dean, College of Veterinary Science, inaugurated the free vaccination and deworming camp held for dogs at Veterinary and Clinical Services Complex. He highlighted the achievements made by GADVASU during previous years. He said that new diagnostic labs.at veterinary hospital and different labs. for Toxicology,Immunopathology and Molecular diagnosis has been established. University has also set up a separate diagnostic centre .He also informed that a new Equine hospital& Canine hospital are going to set up in the campus.  GADVASU is the first university to implement new regulations of Veterinary Council of India he added. He further said that university is also running short duration Training & Refresher courses for field veterinarian. Dr. Sushil Parbhakar, Head, Veterinary and Clinical Services Complex informed that a large number of dogs were vaccinated and dewormed during the camp. Inter Vet and Intas Pharmaceuticals provided complimentary vaccines and medicines.

      Dr. P.K. Trehan shared his views in Information Technology in Education, Veterinary Health and Animal Sciences and  Dr. A.K.Bhattacharya, Head, Dairy Division, Vet Care Ltd., Bangalore delivered a lecture on Brucellosis. Vet Care Ltd., Bangalore  had organized an essay competition earlier and Mr. Manzoor – ul – Haque, an M.V.Sc. student of Veterinary Parasitology was adjudged best for his essay on “Role of Antioxidants in Mastitis” and was awarded with a certificate and a cash prize of Rs.2100/-. The function was attended by the faculty of the university, students and retired faculty members and eminent persons of the profession. The function concluded with the vote of thanks by Dr. G.S. Dhaliwal.
