Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) will confer Chief Minister’s Award in the field of dairy farming, poultry farming as well as fish farming. The Directorate of Extension Education, GADVASU, Ludhiana has invited applications from farmers undertaking different aspects of livestock farming by 13.3.2009. Earlier the last date was 13.02.09 which has been extended. It is pertinent to mention that veterinary university is organizing PASHU PALAN MELAS on March 6th at Patiala,March 13th at Ballowal Saunkhri,March 19-20 at GADVASU campus,March 24th at Bathinda and March 26th at Gurdaspur.
Dr. Onkar Singh Parmar, Director Extension Education, GADVASU revealed that the awards have been funded by the hon’ble Chief Minister to boost the livestock sector in the state and will consist of cash prize as well as citation. Further Dr. Parmar informed that earlier Chief Minister’s Award used to be given in the field of Dairy Farming only and from last year, to give boost to the other livestock sectors, it has been decided to give the awards to progressive/innovative farmers undertaking poultry and fisheries farming alongwith dairy farming. The application forms can be obtained from the Directorate of Extension Education, GADVASU, Ludhiana, and from all Krishi Vigyan Kenders in different districts, Deputy Directors of state departments of Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development, Fisheries and also from the General Managers of all Co-operative and Private Milk Plants of the respective district. The contesting livestock farmers will be short listed for the awards based on their contributions in respective fields and further a team of Deans and Directors of the university will visit the different farms for making on the spot assessment and winners will be declared by the Committee. The Chief Minister Awards will act as a source of inspiration for the unemployed youth for starting their own livestock enterprises and as well as it will bring healthy competition among the farmers to adopt the dairy, poultry and fish farming on modern scientific lines to improve their productivity and profitability which will help in the diversification of agriculture with livestock enterprises.
