Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Barnala of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana also developed and demonstrated a Straw straining machine in the
ongoing Pashu Palan Mela. Dr. P.S. Tanwar, Associate Director of Kendra revealed that It is a very simple technology. When farmer prepare straw of wheat a loft of dust comes with straw and straw become very fine during the process. It has come to notice that farmers feed wheat straw to their animals as such or without straining and lot of dust ingested by animals along with straw in form of RINI (a ball of dust) and sand resulting a number of digestive problems developed in animals. The problems are like constipation in animals, intake of straw reduced by animals, palatability of straw reduced, digestibility of animals also declined, ulcers may occur in animals. In resultant animal feel weakness and reduced milk production. Dust in straw may also affect human body like dust allergy and breathing troubles. This machine can be fabricated by local fabricators by using simple sieve of iron and tin sheet. Dr. Tanwar told that we are always ready to give any input or technology to the farmers for the fabrication of machine on their own end.
