Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University's Krishi Vigyan Kendra, , Tarn Taran, organised Kisan Sammelan on Sankalp se Sidhi (S s S). The programme was witnessed by large gathering of different stakeholders. Dr AS Nanda, Vice Chancellor, GADVASU was Chief Guest of the programme. S. Gurchet Singh Bhullar, Ex Irrigation Minister, Punjab was ‘Guest of Honour. Dr HK Verma, Director of Extension Education, GADVASU, Ludhiana, Deputy Directors, Agricultural Officers also joined the programme.
The programme was inaugurated by Dr. A. S. Nanda, in the inaugural address he said that rice-wheat yields are reached at stagnation and it is very difficult to enhance their productivity further. So, without adopting allied/ subsidiaries activities, it is not possible to raise the income levels two fold. Goat, Pig and Fish Farming are the best available alternatives to enhance the income as well as much needed diversification. The income from these farming is much higher than the orthodox wheat and paddy cycle. S. Gurchet Singh Bhullar, told that farmers cannot enhance their income to double without Scientists’ assistance and they have to take proper guidance from agricultural experts at every management steps of the crop and other enterprises. Dr H. K. Verma, Director Extension Education highlighted the importance of the programme and emphasised that Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India has planned to organize Sankalp Se Sidhi programme to develop country in a holistic manner. The Kisan Sammelan was focused on doubling the income of the farmers’ by 2022. Other experts from PAU, GADVASU, KVK and in line departments also discussed on key points to double the farmers’ income.
A pledge was administered by Dr HK Verma to make India clean, corruption free, poverty free, terrorism free, communalism free, caste free and for doubling agriculture income by 2022. GADVASU departments, Punjab Dairy Development Board, Horticulture, Farmer Advisory Service Scheme (FASS), KVK Barnala, KVK Mohali put their exhibition in the Sammelan. Different companies related to Veterinary medicine and Agriculture and Self Help Groups also displayed their products in exhibition. Dr Balwinder Kumar thanked all the dignitaries, university officials, companies, line departments for their active participation and making this programme a grand success.
