Progressive Goat Farmer Association elects new team

 A monthly meeting of Progressive Goat Farmer Association (PGFA) was held at Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana. Goat farmers from every nook and corner of Punjab participated in this meeting. Technical deliberations on Summer management of goats was delivered by  Dr  Mandeep Singla, Department of Livestock Production and Management; Importance and future perspective of goat farming by Dr Rajesh Kasrija, Department of Veterinary  and Animal Husbandry Extension Education; and about the insurance policy in Goats by Dr R K Sharma, Senior Scientist cum Deputy Director, RRTC, Talwara.

In this meeting, the new executive committee was constituted. Among the newly elected team of PGFA- President is Jugraj Singh, Village Dhade (Bathinda); Vice-president is Rahul Kasnia, Village Ramsara (Fazilka); Secretary is Davinder Singh Oberoi, Ludhiana; Joint Secretary is Balwinder Singh, Village Gorsian Makhan (Ludhiana); Treasurer is Amarjit Singh, Chohak Kalan (Jalandhar); Joint treasurer is Sukhdev Singh, village Bibiwala (Bathinda) and press secretary is Satnam Singh, village Lohgarh (Jalandhar). The executive members are Birbal Ram and Amarjit Singh, Village Dhade  (Bathinda); Swarn Singh, Village Dhamot (Ludhiana) and Noor Mohamad, Village Dhulewal (Barnala). Dr H K Verma, Director Extension Education, GADVASU revealed that Goat farming is gaining all-time high popularity in the state and  university is  striving its best to popularize various livestock farming like Dairy, Poultry, Piggery etc. for all section of farmers viz. landless, small to large farmers through various modus operandi. GADVASU is also patting the innovative and progressive goat farmers by providing Chief Minister Award every year to the selected farmer. It is pertinent to mention that many members of PGFA are undertaking value addition of goat milk such as flavoured milk and sterilized milk. Dr S K Kansal, Head, Department of Veterinary extension, revealed that different farmers associations like Goat, Pig, fish are running under the aegis of university. Dr Rajesh Kasrija and Dr Khushpreet Singh, Coordinators, Progressive Goat Farmer Association told that university is regularly providing the technical backup to the goat farmers by conducting the monthly meeting of association on every first Friday of the month. Next Meeting of PGFA will be held on 2nd June at the Goat farm of Sr. Amarjit Singh, village Chohak Kalan (Jalandhar)
