Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Booh, Tarn Taran of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana organized a 5 days Vocational Training Programme on “Cucurbit Vegetable Cultivation” under ICAR-14 Scheme. Progressive Farmers from district Tarn Taran and Ferozepur attended this training programme. Dr. Balwinder Kumar, Deputy Director (Training), KVK, Booh, Tarn Taran
welcomed the farmers for the programme and highlighted the importance of vegetable crops for agriculture crop diversification in sustainable crop production. Dr. Kumar also told about the different activities of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Tarn Taran for benefits of thefarming community. Mr. Nirmal Singh (Assistant Professor) Horticulture and Course Coordinator discussed with trainees in detail about hybrid seed production, nursery production, low tunnel technology, nursery grown in poly bags and plug trays and Insect pest control in cucurbit vegetable crops. Mr. Singh has particularly suggested the farmers to adopt the direct marketing technique for sale of vegetables to beware from the exploitation by agents. Dr Anil Kumar
Assistant Professor (Soil Science) informed the framer about the importance of management of soil for the production of different vegetable crops. Dr Anil Kumar also advised the farmers to get the samples of the soil and water and examined from the KVK Tarn Taran. During this training program the farmers of this area had visited Centre of Excellence for Vegetable Crops at Karatpur (Jalandhar). Mr. Daljit Singh, Incharge of centre delivered an effective and productive lecture to the farmers at this moment. Mr. Nikhil Ambish Mehta, Horticulture Development Officer of this center had given live demonstration to the farmers related to crops and all the queries regarding protected cultivation of vegetable crops were answered to the farmers.
