Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension Education, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana organized two weeks “Specialized Dairy” training course from 06.02.2017 to 17.02.2017. Dr Jaswinder Singh and Dr. Rajesh Kasrija, Training Coordinators, informed that total 32 trainees including one women trainee from different parts of Punjab were enrolled for this training. Deliberations on latest nutritional and health management; housing; vaccination; deworming; breed improvement; value addition of milk; reproductive and seasonal management were made during the training. Trainees were imparted theoretical, as well as practical know-how of dairy farming. Trainees were provided with hands-on-practice on recording basic vital parameters like rectal temperature, respiration rate, controlling of animals; calculating weight of animals without measuring scale balance and milk testing techniques. They were trained to differentiate between healthy and diseased animals and first aid management. At valedictory session, trainees were facilitated with the participation certificates.
Dr. H. K. Verma, Director of Extension Education said that diversification of livestock sector is moving at a very fast pace, where in, the Veterinary University is always working to improve the socio-economic status of the livestock owners by providing them with recent inputs. He advised farmers to take up the knowledge provided to them during training and apply it on their own farms. Now you are trained dairy farmers, you can share the knowledge with fellow farmers and can contact the GADVASU for any problem or difficulty. He informed that dairy farming is a very profitable venture, but there is an urgent need to do farming on scientific lines. He also informed that Veterinary University also publishes books and magazines for livestock farmers in Punjabi, and English and have also developed video CDs on different aspects to educate the farmers for ideal management. Dr S. K. Kansal, Professor and Head, Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension Education apprised that Veterinary varsity is organizing training programmes round the year for livestock farmers, which educate a trainee to become good entrepreneur in the field of Dairy, Poultry, Goat, Pig or Fish farming. GADVASU will be organizing Pashu Palan Mela on 24-25th March, 2017 at Ludhiana campus and the innovative farmers will be honored.
