GADVASU Reproduction Faculty and Students Excelled in National and International meets

Faculty and students of Department of Veterinary Gyanecology and Obstetrics, GADVASU, attended 32nd Annual Convention  and national symposium on “Animal Fertility and Fecundity at Crossroads: Addressing the Issues through Conventional and Advanced Reproductive Technologies” held at College of Veterinary Science, Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University, Tirupati from Dec 6-8, 2016.

In the inaugural session of the conference “Neil’s Lagerloff Award” was bestowed upon AK Pandey, PhD student, GS Dhaliwal and SPS Ghuman for their research paper “Impact of Buserelin acetate or hCG administration on day 5 post-ovulation on subsequent luteal profile and conception rate in Murrah buffalo (Bubalus bubalis)” published in Animal Reproduction Science, an international journal. “N C Sharma award” was presented to V Zodinsanga, M.V.Sc student, R S Cheema and P S Mavi for their research paper “Effect of age and breed on antisperm antibodies (ASA) in blood serum and seminal plasma of bulls: Immunoreactivity of sperm surface proteins with ASA” published in Indian Journal of Animal Reproduction.

Dr Navdeep Singh, Assistant Scientist, won “Dr RD Sharma Award” for the best paper in obstetrics entitled “Doppler indices of middle uterine artery as a tool for predicting the fetal status in cattle with uterine torsion and the recovery of uterine blood flow subsequent to detorsion”. Dr Navdeep also received ‘Young Scientist Award’ for best research poster presentation ‘Blood flow indices of middle uterine artery can predict per-vaginal delivery and fetal survival in uterine torsion affected buffalo”. Both the papers are co-authored by VK Gandotra and SPS Ghuman.

Dr Sumit Singhal, Assistant Gynaecologist bagged “Young Scientist Award” for the best reseach poster “Effect of two different doses of follicle stimulating hormone on superovulatory response and embryo recovery in Sahiwal cows” in Reproductive Biotechnology session. The paper is co-authored by Narinder Singh, VS Malik, Ajeet Kumar and PS Brar and emphasized the field application of Embryo Transfer Technology for propagation of indigenous Sahiwal cattle.

Faculty members VK Gandotra, SPS Ghuman, Ajeet Kumar, AK Singh, Bilawal Singh, and post graduate students Ankit Ahuja, Shivkumar, Sagar Lochan, Vinny Dodiyar, Pooja Dogra also presented papers in oral and poster sessions. Research findings drew the attention and interest of the scientific community in respective sessions.

Professor (Dr) VK Gandotra, was unanimously elected as Vice-President of Indian Society for the Study of Animal Reproduction (ISSAR). This is his second term as vice president of the society. He was applauded for providing leadership and strength to the society from all corners. Dr Gandotra also chaired one technical session in the conference.   

Dr Ajeet Kumar, Assistant Professor, was invited to present a key note address in inaugural session on “Veterinary Education in India” at the Annual meeting of Myanmar Veterinary Association, Yongon, Myanmar on 3-4th Dec 2016. He delivered his keynote lecture on “Strategies to optimize reproduction by implementing improved practices in dairy animals” in Animal Science session. The visit to Myanmar was sponsored by Crown Veterinary Resources, Yangon, Myanmar.

Dr A K Singh, Assistant Professor, on the invitation of Director, ICAR–National Research Centre on Pig delivered a lecture on topic, ‘Global Best Practices in Piggery with Special Reference to Artificial Insemination Technology’ during ‘Pig Expo’ held at Guwahati on November 28-29, 2016.
