International Winter School inaugurates at Veterinary Varsity

One week International winter school on “Role of Molecular Biology in Disease Diagnosis and Development of New Generation Vaccines” was inaugurated at GADVASU Ludhiana on 14th Nov, 2016. The chief guest Dr Simrat Sagar Singh, Dean, Post Graduate Studies informed that the animal and human population is under constant threat from various dreaded infectious disease, which results in significant economic losses to our country. For sustainable livestock production, rapid, sensitive and specific diagnosis and development of potent and safe immunoprophylactics is the utmost priority. The area of biotechnology and molecular biology is growing rapidly, and hence to keep pace with the advancement, a refresher course is mandatory for all researchers/teachers/students as qualified and trained manpower is the need of the hour. He further elaborated that 40 students are participating in the school from various national level institutes, University of Saskatchewan, Canada and Freie University, Berlin.

Dr Ramneek, Organizing secretary, informed that winter school is being organized in collaboration with University of Saskatchewan, Canada. Expert lectures will be delivered by Dr Vikram Misra, Dr Suresh Tikoo, Dr Dale Godson, Dr Scott Napper from University of Saskatchewan and various experts from national institutes.

Dr JPS Gill, Director of Research highlighted that the International winter school intends to bring together scientists, professionals and educationists to a common platform for scientific deliberations and interactions. Dr Vikram Misra, Professor, Vety Microbiology, University of Saskatchewan, Canada and joint organizing secretary informed that the international winter school aims at highlighting all recent, novel and innovative research in areas of disease diagnosis and new generation vaccine development especially for the post-graduate students and early career researchers.

Dr R S Sethi, Professor, School of Animal Biotechnology extended the vote of thanks. Dr P S Brar, Dean, College of Veterinary Sciences and alongwith various faculty members and students from GADVASU, Ludhiana were present at the inaugural session.
