Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana has provided ‘Green Sims’ to the livestock farmers of Punjab in association with IFFCO Kisan in Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode. ‘Green Sims’ is a normal mobile sim and it will be used through a mobile phone. Farmers will receive three calls (voice messages) daily from livestock experts of different fields for their whole life. These registered farmers will be further categorized according to their farming needs. ‘Green Sims’ have been distributed to the fourteen farmers who attended specialized goat training at GADVASU.
Dr. H.K. Verma, Director of Extension Education, GADVASU marked its importance in connecting the unreached farmers of Punjab. He said that Farmers can directly contact the experts and will be getting regular voice calls. This will create a two way channel for updating the knowledge of the farmers and feedback will be received for assessing the real field situation, so that research strategies can be redesigned. In a short period of time, GADVASU is going to make it available to all the farmers attending various training programmes at Ludhiana and its outreach centers.
Dr. A.S. Nanda, Vice-Chancellor, GADVASU appreciated the efforts of the directorate for initiating a new means of providing information to the farmers through ‘Green Sims’ and this will enrich the farmers with timely, precise and correct information to the stakeholders. GADVASU is the first veterinary university to initiate a green sim PPP approach for the benefit of the livestock farmers. Dr. Ravdeep Singh, Assistant professor, Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension Education was instrumental in executing the ‘Green Sims’ theme for the farmers.
