01 November 2017 - Vocational Training Programme on INTEGRATED FISH AND PIG FARMING at KVK Tarn Taran

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, GADVASU, Booh, Tarn Taran organized a vocational training programme on ‘Integrated Fish and Pig Farming’ from 23.10.2017 to 27.10.2017 at its Campus. Twenty farmers from different villages of Distt. Tarn Taran participated in this training course. Scientific knowledge on various aspects of fish farming as well as pig farming was devised in this training for skill development and self entrepreneurship of farmers.

While inaugurating the training programme, Dr. Balwinder Kumar, Deputy Director (Training) and Course Director, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, stressed upon the development of skills of the rural population of the district Tarn Taran through imparting the trainings on subsidiary occupation. Piggery and fishery are promising source of generating income for better livelihood and earning. Further he also highlighted various facilities developed and provided by GADVASU and KVK for the benefit of the farming community.>

The topics covered in the training course by course coordinators, KVK faculty and experts from College of Veterinary Science and College of Fisheries  of GADVASU included preparation/construction of pig shed, species of pigs, feed management, marketing of pigs, value addition of meat products, construction of fish pond, different fish species suitable for culture, fish feeding and harvesting, management of problems in fish and pig farming. Progressive integrated fish and pig farmer Mr. S.S. Dhaliwal, Mr. Swarn Singh, Deputy General Manager from IDBI along with bank manager expressed their views about integrated farming systems and available schemes and subsidies from banks to initiate integrated fish and pig farming system in the district.  Trainees were taken for exposure visit at pig farm of Mr. Hardeep Singh and Tarsem Singh who is rearing more than 150 pigs of middle white Yorkshire variety at Sarhali village, District Tarn Taran. Meanwhile awareness to trainees about Farmers Field School at same farm was created for learning more practical aspects about piggery. On the last day of training all the trainees visited fish farm of Mr. Balwant Singh who is practicing composite fish farming in 4.5 acres at village Marhi Kamboke, District Tarn Taran. During the exposure visits, trainees interacted with owners in enthusiastic manner on integration systems of fish and pig farming.

Dr Bhanu Prakash, Course Coordinator proposed the vote of thanks at the valedictory function and thanked the trainees and visiting guests and faculty.
