Dr. Prabjeet Singh joins as Deputy Director KVK, Tarn Taran. Dr. Singh was working as an Assistant Professor in the College of Fisheries from past nine years. He has played an instrumental role in introduction, validation and demonstration of shrimp farming technology in the salt affected areas of South-West districts of Punjab. This technology played a significant role in improving the socio-economic status of debt ridden farmers of salt affected areas of Punjab. Dr. Singh has been an outstanding researcher and has several awards and recognitions to his credit which include Young scientist award, Best Researcher Award, Fellowships & recognition awards from various nationally recognised scientific societies of the country. Dr Singh has published around 35 research publications in high impact journals with more than 824 citations besides publishing
more than 17 popular articles. He has handled several research projects as PI and Co-PI and guided several Masters and Ph.D students in their thesis research. Dr Singh has been a vibrant extension worker and has delivered more than 100 extension lectures, organised 13 farmer training programmes, delivered around 14 radio talks besides organising several field days/demonstration camps for the farmers. Dr Singh was awarded a Visiting Researcher Fellowship by International Centre of Excellence in Seafood Science and Innovation Faculty of Agro-Industry, Prince of Songkla University in 2022 and Fellowship in 2023 under NAHEP project of ICAR.
Dr. Singh emphasized the scientists of KVK to concentrate on market driven technology demonstrations for a sustained farm income of the farmers of the District. He said “Land holding of the farmers is decreasing day by day which is a threat to the nutritional and food security of the country. We will be focussing on integrating those enterprises with agriculture which will bring a significant change in farmer’s income of the small and marginal farmers”
Dr. Parkash Singh Brar, Director Extension Education congratulated and guided him to work on technologies which bring a viable increase in farm income.
Dr. Inderjeet Singh, Vice Chancellor extended his best wishes and said that KVK-Tarn Taran of Vet Varsity is playing an instrumental role in uplifting the socio-economic status of the farmers of District Tarn Taran
