Dr. Inderjeet Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University was bestowed with the 'Distinguished Veterinarian of India' award by the Veterinary Council of India. The award was conferred at an impressive national level event organized by the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Government of India at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.
Sh. Parshottam Rupala, Union Minister for Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries of India conferred the honor in the presence of Dr. Umesh Chandra, President, Veterinary Council of India, Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Balyan, Union Minister of State, Dr. BN Tripathi, Deputy Director General, Indian Council of Agricultural Research and Dr. Abhijit Mitra, Commissioner of Animal Husbandry, Government of India.
1200 veterinary professionals from across the country participated in this grand national level event organized for the first time. The main objective of the event, held in the context of World Veterinary Day, was to recognize the important role of Veterinarians in animal, human health and ecology. The theme of this year's World Veterinary Day was “Promoting Diversity, Equity, and Inclusiveness in the veterinary profession”. Dr. Inderjeet Singh also chaired a technical session on 'One Health, Veterinary interventions for Wildlife Conservation & management and Role of veterinarians in Indian Army ' organized on this occasion. Dr. Singh dedicated this honor to the entire veterinary fraternity. He said that this honor is a notable contribution of his service at Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University and Department of Animal Husbandry, Punjab as he is closely associated with these two institutions.
