Vet Varsity Conducts Entrepreneurship Development Programme

Department of Livestock Products Technology (LPT), Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University(GADVASU), Ludhiana organized a three days Entrepreneurship Development Programme on “Processing and Value Addition of Meat”  for the butchers, farmers, meat industry personnel and entrepreneurs. The intent was to educate them about clean meat production practices, processing and value addition of meat by preparing different types of products and preservation of meat products for entrepreneurship development. This training programme was financially supported by Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi under SC-SP Scheme and was attended by 15 participants. Dr. Yashpal Sigh, Head, Department of LPT was the Course Director and Dr Nitin Mehta, O.P. Malav and R.V. Wagh acted as course coordinators and actively organized different activities in this training programme. 
Dr. Yashpal Singh mentioned that the course content of the training programme included basics of clean meat production, selection of food animals, slaughtering techniques, deboning and dressing operation of poultry, sheep, goat and pig and acquaintance with the machinery and equipments for meat processing. Experts also trained the participants by hands-on training and practical demonstration of preparation of different value added meat products. 
Dr. Parkash Singh Brar, Director Extension Education, GADVASU congratulated the organizers for organizing the training programme and emphasized that university is always ready to serve the farmers, meat shop owners, entrepreneurs and meat industry personnel through conduction of various extension activities. He asserted that meat processing and value addition is a sunrise sector with ample scope. Dr Inderjeet Singh, Vice Chancellor, GADVASU applauded the efforts of organizers and emphasized that value addition of livestock products is the need of the hour for better revenue generation and entrepreneurship development.
