Training programme on “Goat Farming” organized by the Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension Education, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana concluded. Goat farmers from across the state of Punjab and adjoining areas attended the training programme. Dr. Rajesh Kasrija and Dr. Amandeep Singh, coordinated the training program and informed that a total of 35 trainees participated in the said training which was the highest after COVID pandemic. The experts from various departments of the University made deliberations on scientific practices pertaining to ideal housing, breeding goals, balanced nutrition and health management of goats. Practical demonstrations were provided on handling goats and value addition of meat along with a special visit to Integrated Farming System. Special emphasis was also given on the importance of goat milk along with its value addition.
Dr. R. K. Sharma, HoD, Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension Education apprised that goats form the basis of low input technology to provide year round income to the farmers. He stated that the goat milk has been blessed with medicinal properties having good nutritional value. He informed that Veterinary University also publishes books in different languages and monthly magazine for livestock farmers in Punjabi. The farmers were specifically taught indigenous technologies and treatment of different ailments of goats with the help of household ingredients. Herbal treatments for animals, published in the form of a book, is available at Farmer Information Centre.
A feedback session was organized at the valedictory session of the training in which trainees showed their contentment regarding the training. The trainees were facilitated with the participation certificates by Dr. Sharma along with the faculty members of the department.
