A five-day farmers training course on ‘Value addition of milk ' organized by College of Dairy Science and Technology, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University concluded.
Congratulating the trainees including one women trainee who underwent training in the course, the Chief Guest, Dr JPS Gill, Director Research, GADVASU said that dairy processing with value addition could increase their profit margin. He motivated farmers to form FPOs, produce quality milk & milk products which will improve the nutritional and economic well-being of a large number of farmers in Punjab. He appreciated the faculty for excellent training to the farmers which will be of great help to the dairy farmers who are interested in starting their own dairy processing business. He suggested the trainee participants to maintain contacts with the University experts.
Dr. SK Mendiratta, Dean of the college emphasized that the need of the hour is to shift the small milk producers to milk processors through value addition. He stressed the need for better marketing of products manufactured by small dairy processors through selection of good market place, obtaining value price through improvement of quality by value addition. He motivated the farmers and ensured the cooperation from the trained faculty of the college in the future.
Dr. Inderpreet Kaur, Dr. PK Singh and Er. Gursharn Singh, course coordinators informed that the training programme was technically designed and provided practical training on the manufacture of seven milk products viz. milk cake, paneer, ghee, dahi, lassi, mozzarella cheese and sterilized flavoured milk. The training covered the microbiological, chemical and economical aspects for proper handling of milk and milk products. Farmers shared their experiences about the technical sessions of the training and mentioned that they had excellent practical experience of manufacturing the milk products and other technical know-how from learned faculty of the college. Valedictory session was concluded with distribution of certificates to the participants
