Vet Varsity Scientist Earns an International Visiting Researcher Fellowship

Dr. Prabjeet Singh, Assistant Professor, College of Fisheries (COF), Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) earned two weeks “Visiting Researcher Fellowship” at International Centre of Excellence in Seafood Science and Innovation (ICESSI), Prince of Songkla University (PSU), Hatyai Thailand under “Reinventing Faculty Programme”. He is getting training in advanced seafood processing technologies to extract functional nutraceutical/industrial by-products, especially from shrimp, under the mentorship of Dr. Soottawat Benjakul, Director of ICESSI and Dr. Avtar Singh, Director Research and International Affairs.

Dr. Prabjeet also held several meetings proactively with the Vice-President International Affairs, Deans, HoDs and Faculty, to work out the modalities for future collaborations between PSU and GADVASU, under Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). This MoU will strengthen student exchange programs for advanced training and internships of fisheries/veterinary professionals and capacity building of faculty of both the universities.

Dr. Meera D. Ansal, Dean, COF expressed that such collaborations are vital to provide advanced practical experience to students and faculty, which can boost their confidence and competency to take up professional assignments and associated challenges more effectively.

Dr. J.P.S Gill, Director of Research, GADVASU stated that international associations with globally acclaimed universities play an instrumental role in lifting up the expertise and vision of the scientists to undertake innovative research. It also helps in earning global recognition and alliances for developing fruitful collaborative research projects, he added.

Dr. Inderjeet Singh, Vice-Chancellor, congratulated Dr. Prabjeet Singh and said that GADVASU is looking forward to the proposed MOU between GADVASU and PSU, which will open new avenues for developing mutually benefitting academic and research exchange programmes between the two institutes, for sustainable growth of livestock and fisheries sectors.
