Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana organized a one day training camp for beneficiary farmers at adopted village Mehal Kalan under ICAR funded ‘Farmer FIRST’ project. This training-cum-input distribution camp was organized under the guidance of Dr. P.S. Brar, Director of Extension Education & Nodal officer of Farmer FIRST Project and Dr. Y.S. Jadoun, Principal Investigator (PI) of the project.
Team Members Dr. Jaswinder Singh (Co-PI), Dr. Dilpreet Talwar (Co-PI) and Dr. Navkiran Kaur organized the event in which 15 beneficiary farmers from the Mehal Kalan village were trained. Dr. Jaswinder Singh welcomed the farmers and delivered the expert lecture on making good quality silage. He laid special emphasis on the stage at which crop is harvested for silage making as it is the basis for making good quality silage. He provided information about the dimensions of pit silage, ensiling process and explained the advantages of silage making. He motivated the farmers to adopt it as an entrepreneurial venture as a source of additional income during the lean and dry season.
Dr. Dilpreet Talwar delivered an expert lecture on vegetable kitchengardening and provided information about the management of kitchen gardening in summer and rainy season. He emphasized on common problems faced by farmers related to vegetable gardening and to protect the crop from common diseases and pests by bio-control measures. Demonstration kits of vegetable seedlings were also provided to the beneficiary farmers to promote nutritional gardening and as an entrepreneurial enterprise for additional source of income.
Dr. P S Brar appreciated the efforts of the project team for doing the impressive work in the operational area for the welfare of the farming community.
