Vet Varsity organizes one-month long lecture series in Biotechnology

College of Animal Biotechnology of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana  has organized a series of lectures under the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India sponsored scheme for Post Graduates students. In this programme, eminent subject specialists from different national and international institutes delivered expert lectures. Dr. Sachinandan De, Principal Scientist & Incharge, Animal Biotechnology Centre, ICAR-National Dairy Research Institute, Karnal, Dr. Naresh Selokar, Scientist, ICAR-National Dairy Research Institute, Karnal have enlightened the students on the cutting-edge technologies like genome editing via CRISPR/cas and superior breed development enhancing productivity of farm animals. Dr. Gaya Prasad, Ex Vice Chancellor,  Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel University of Agriculture & Technology, Meerut (UP), Dr. U. D. Gupta, Former Director of National Institute of Leprosy & Other Mycobacterial diseases, Agra & ICMR consultant  enlightened the students on the topic of Biosafety Practices in Research Lab and ethical issues related to conducting animal experiments. In viral disease diagnostic and vaccine development, Dr. Minakshi Prasad, Ex Professor & Head, Lala Lajpat Rai University of Veterinary & Animal Sciences, Hisar provided an overview of molecular tools in viral disease diagnosis, Dr. Baldev Raj Gulati, Principal Scientist, ICAR-National Research Centre on Equine, Hisar shed a light on Animal Coronavirus epidemiology & antiviral approaches. Dr. Ablesh Gautam, Deputy Director, Central Research Institute, Kasauli talked about production of hyperimmune sera in equines in cGMP compliance. In the lecture series, speakers from industrial and international institute were also invited. Dr. Chetan Aditya, from Cybergenetics at Institut Pasteur, Paris, France, presented an overview on synthetic biology, a scientific discipline of and for the 21st century and Dr. Ashish Tiwari from Genus Breeding, India Pvt Ltd., Babugarh, Hapur delivered an expert lecture on Sexed Semen: Biotechnology intervention for next white revolution. An overwhelming response from students and faculty was received in this one-month lecture series.

            Dr. Yashpal Singh Malik, Dean, College of Animal Biotechnology & Programme Director of this course stated that the main objective of these lectures was to make students acquainted with cutting-edge technological and human resource development. Additionally, to enable the students, get academic and research guidance from subject experts. The participants were exposed to recent developments and new approaches for innovation in animal science and technologies. Dr. Nisha Singh, Assistant Professor, Department of Bioinformatics, course coordinator structured this DBT-PG lecture series.

            Dr. Inderjeet Singh, Vice-Chancellor congratulated the college faculty for the initiative.
