Vet Varsity organizes Meeting for Minimal Standards of Veterinary Practice Regulations

Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana organized the North and East zone meeting for laying down the draft for minimal standards of Veterinary practice regulations.  It was attended by more than 100 renowned veterinarians from all over the India. Planning the draft for regulation of minimal standards for Veterinary practice is expected to be an innovative and progressive step started by Veterinary Council of India. It is going to regulate the Veterinary practice in India and will help to uplift the Veterinary profession. Draft targets all the modern diagnostic and therapeutic tools in a cohesive manner.

In opening remarks, Dr. SPS Ghuman, Dean, College of Veterinary Science laid emphasis on looking beyond the conventional approaches for betterment of Veterinary profession. He was of the view that increased importance of pet and farm animals has led to increased demand of quality Veterinarians for which the practice standards need to be improved. Dr. Inderjeet Singh, Vice-Chancellor, GADVASU opined that improving the practice standards and facilities will increase economic gains of the livestock owners, which will further encourage new generation farmers to take up the livestock farming and will make them job providers rather than job seekers.

Dr. Suresh S. Honnappagol, Chairman MSVPR committee, gave stress that for the progress of veterinary profession, the practice standards in India should meet standards of advanced western world. National level guidelines will be beneficial for the veterinarians, patients and animal owners. He proposed practice guidelines to be dynamic and help to hone the skills of the veterinarians. Dr. Umesh Chandra Sharma, President Veterinary Council of India, praised GADVASU, being a standard for the veterinary education and practice in India and abroad. He was of the opinion that new regulations will be a milestone to regulate veterinary practice in India.

All the speakers were unanimously of view that it is high time that veterinary profession should leap forward and employ better strategies to let the veterinary profession soar new heights.
