Vet Varsity scholar gets best research story award

The research story of Dr. Deepthi Vijay, Ph.D. scholar from Centre for One Health, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) has been selected as one among the best popular science stories under Department of Science and Technology - Augmenting Writing Skills for Articulating Research (DST-AWSAR) Award 2021 organized by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India. This national level competition was aimed for Augmenting Writing Skills for Articulating Research (AWSAR) of science communication among the researchers across the country. Under this award, Dr. Deepthi will be facilitated with the citation and a cash award of Rs 10000/- by DST, GoI. She carried out her research work under the guidance of Dr. Jasbir Singh Bedi in the area of antimicrobial resistance among dairy herds of Punjab in the One Health framework. Dr. Bedi, Director, Centre for One Health congratulated Dr. Deepthi for the award and emphasised that the problem of antimicrobial resistance at human-animal-environmental interface must be addressed on priority basis. The Centre for One Health is engaged with various research programs to study the epidemiology of antimicrobial resistant pathogens in the veterinary public health domain and also carrying out various awareness campaigns and training programmes on the antimicrobial resistance among farmers and public health professionals. Dr. J.P.S Gill, Director Research and Dr. S.K. Uppal, Dean Post-graduate studies, GADVASU, appreciated the research efforts of Dr. Deepthi for targeting this relevant public health issue and highlighted that such popular science stories are need of the hour in generating the interest of general public in applied research projects. Dr. Inderjeet Singh, Vice Chancellor, GADVASU congratulated Dr. Deepthi and her mentor Dr. Bedi for this national level award. Dr. Singh emphasized that such awards will further motivate research scholars to popularize their research findings among general public.
