College of Veterinary Science, Rampura Phul organized farmer’s awareness Camps and demonstration for Paddy straw treatment as animal feed under its drive to prevent the paddy straw burning. The demonstration camp for Paddy straw treatment with Urea and Molasses for its utilization as animal feed was organized in association with District Administration, Mansa at Gaushala, Village Khokar kalan, district Mansa. Dr.Yashwant Singh, demonstrated various steps of paddy straw treatment with urea and molasses for its efficient utilization. He informed that by this treatment protein value of straw along with its digestibility can be improved which will ultimately reduce the cost of feeding the animals. The programme was attended by official of Dept. Animal Husbandry and Dept. of Agriculture, Gaushala committee members and farmers. Dr. Amrik Singh, Deputy Director, Dept. of Animal Husbandry, Mansa briefed the farmers and members of Gaushala committees about other uses of paddy straw for animals. Members of organizing committee of Shri Krishna Gaushala, Brata also attended the programme and showed their keen interest in treatment of paddy straw for feeding to their animals in Gaushala.
During this drive, farmer’s awareness camps were also organized in association with CARE INDIA to prevent the paddy straw burning at Village Burj Mansa, Kauloke and Sailbrah and Sandhu Khurd.
Dr Yashwant Singh discussed in detail about negative consequences of paddy straw burning on health of soil, human and environment and tips to utilize paddy straw as animal feed after treating it with urea and molasses. He also discussed about utilization of paddy straw in the field itself for organic farming and facilities provided by the government for in-situ management of paddy straw. Dr. Sandeep Kaswan briefed the farmers regarding utilization of paddy straw like bedding during winter season, roof insulation etc. Dr. Manish Kumar Chatli, Dean, COVS, Rampura Phul and Dr Inderjeet Singh,Vice-Chancellor, GADVASU appreciated the staff of Veterinary College, Rampura Phul for participation in this awareness drive for the benefit of soil health in particular and environment health in general.
