College of Veterinary Science (COVS), Rampura Phul (Bathinda), has organized various National level events viz. Elocution, Essay writing and Video films on the theme “Veterinarian response to COVID-19 crisis" on the occasion of World Veterinary Day (WVD). The budding veterinarians from more than 20 different veterinary colleges across the country participated in the events. After screening, 28 participants were allowed to deliver elocution in virtual mode, 40 essays and 32 videos were considered for the competition. The participants were judged by a panel of judges from the senior faculty of the college. All the videos were evaluated on the criteria of originality, content, creativity and audio-visual clarity. Dr. Rabindran R., Dr Kritima Kapoor, Dr Sreekala S Mohandas and Dr Adarsh Mishra, faculties of the college acted as the organizing secretaries.
A National webinar was also conducted and two eminent speakers were invited for the event. Dr. Manish K. Chatli, Dean, of the college and chairman of the webinar introduced the theme and highlight the history & significance of the day. Dr Atul Prakash coordinated the event and introduced the speakers to the attendees. Dr. Satish K. Garg, Registrar, Bihar Animal Sciences University, Patna shared his views and discussed One health approach and challenges faced in the field of Veterinary Medicine due to the pandemic. He also discussed the advantages and disadvantages of on-line veterinary education during COVID-19 crisis. The other eminent speaker, Dr S. B. Barbuddhe, Director, ICAR-National Research Center on Meat, Hyderabad discussed about “Veterinarian’s Role in Quality Assurance of Livestock Products” with a focus on the role of veterinarian in food inspection, quality assurance and ensuring food safety during the COVID-19 crisis. All the sessions were very interactive and informative. The results of National level essay writing, elocution and visual showcase competitions were announced at the end of the webinar. Dr Kritima Kapoor, extended vote of thanks to speakers for delivering their expert views on this crucial topic of this year’s theme of World Veterinary Day. Dr Manish Kumar Chatli acknowledges the valuable inputs, encouragement and critical appraisal provided by Dr Inderjeet Singh, Vice Chancellor, GADVASU. Dr Singh congratulated the college faculty for the organization of such an event. These types of events help in overall personality development of the students.
