Dairy training course concludes at Vet Varsity

Dairy farming training course of two-week duration for the farmers of Punjab was concluded at Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana. Dr. P.S.Brar, Director of Extension Education, GADVASU, said that after getting such training from the university, the unemployed youth can start their own enterprise, which on one hand can provide the needed employment and on the other hand bring diversification in agriculture, which is  need of the hour. He further said that farmers should participate actively in the trainings to acquire basic theoretical and practical knowledge and skills to become successful dairy entrepreneur and should be in regular touch with the University to get benefit from various utility services and facilities available to  the farmers.

Dr. R.K.Sharma, Prof-cum-Head, Department of Veterinary Animal Husbandry Extension Education interacted with the trainees and advised them to have proper planning in connection to land, breeding of high yielding dairy animals and balanced feeding. there must be optimum utilization of available resources to get maximum return. He also stressed upon the value addition of milk products, record keeping of dairy farming and raising of good quality calves born on farmer's own dairy farm for the breed improvement. Dr. Sharma also delivered lecture on identification of sick and healthy animals, appropriate use of antibiotics and care &management of pregnant animals. He also dealt with the queries raised by the trainees. Dr. S. K. Kansal, technical coordinator, briefed about the course outline of the training to the participants. This training programme covered different aspects of dairy farming viz; breeds and breed improvement, reproductive management, Artificial Insemination, comfortable sheds, feed and fodder, green fodder availability round the year,vaccination and deworming, clean milk production, first-aid, value addition of dairy products etc. The exposure visit of dairy farm, pathology lab, clinics and information centre was also organized to inculcate entrepreneurship and practical skills among the dairy farmers.Dr. Y.S. Jadoun and Dr.Gurjot Kaur Mavi coordinated the training course. Dr.Jadoun proposed the vote of thanks on the occasion of valedictory function.
