Vet Varsity concludes training program on Skill development in viral disease diagnosis and prophylaxis

Considering the importance of dogs in human life and ecosystem, the College of Animal Biotechnology, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana successfully completed a seven days training program on ‘Skill development in viral disease diagnosis and prophylaxis’. It was a part of the research project ‘Molecular characterization of Canine Distemper Virus field isolates for selection of suitable vaccine candidate(s)’ under the DBT-GADVASU-Canine Research Centre and Networks program.

Dr Dipak Deka, Organizing secretary informed that the training was comprised of 26 expert lectures/presentation from 26 distinguished speakers including two international speakers; Dr. Suresh K Tikoo, Professor and Director, Vaccinology and Immunotherapeutic Program, School of Public Health, University of Saskatchewan, Canada and Dr. Sunil Mor, Assistant Professor, University of Minnesota, USA, which aimed to cover the ‘insights into canine diseases, new generation canine diagnostics, Nano bodies in disease diagnostic, insights into conventional and new generation canine vaccines, CRISPR uses in diagnostics and vaccine development and importance of vaccine quality control’. Eminent speakers who delivered the talks on the subject are from reputed international and national universities; emeritus professors and authorities of GOI.

Dr J.P.S Gill, Director of Research, who is coordinator of the Department of Biotechnology -Canine Research Centre Networks program (DBT-CRCN) thanked DBT for providing funds for analysis of Canine Distemper Virus at GADVASU.  Dr Yashpal Singh Malik, Dean of the College briefed about the College and various research activities going on in the college. He elaborated on the canine/companion animals’ relevance to ongoing Coronavirus pandemic with the updated scientific information.

A total of 90 applicants were participated from 21 states. They were from 31 different colleges/institutes including 2 national institutes. The training was also live streamed using Facebook page of the College of Animal Biotechnology, GADVASU to benefit those who could not participate actively. Trainees from different universities/institutes were apprised about the recent updates on the conventional and modern techniques for disease diagnosis, new generation vaccine development strategies and importance of vaccine quality control. Emphasis of training was to develop the human resources with providing practical advanced knowledge on disease diagnosis, development of new generation point of care diagnostics and new generation vaccine development strategies as preparedness for future pandemic of viral diseases.

Dr. Satparkash Singh, proposed the vote of thanks during the valedictory session of the training program. Dr. Inderjeet Singh, Vice-Chancellor, GADVASU congratulated the organizing team.
