Vet Varsity organizes International web-symposium on World Rabies Day

Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana (GADVASU) celebrated World Rabies Day on 28 September, 2020 to create awareness about rabies prevention and control. For this purpose, a one-day International web symposium on Rabies and One Health was conducted at the School of Public Health and Zoonoses, GADVASU.

Dr RS Aulakh, Director of the school and coordinator of the symposium welcomed the guest speakers and attending participants on the inaugural session of this web-symposium. More than 70 participants from institutes across the country have attended this symposium. Dr. Jasmine Dhillon from Canadian Food Inspection Agency, Canada talked about the community engagement and perspectives in context of rabies. Dr Horton from University of Surrey, England talked about one health approach to control rabies. Dr. Sharada from OIE Reference Lab for Rabies, Karnataka Veterinary Animal and Fishery Sciences University (KVAFSU), Bangalore discussed about the rabies surveillance in animals. Faculty from GADVASU also delivered lectures on the topics pertinent to symposium. Dr Charan Kamal Singh, Professor cum Head, Veterinary Pathologist, GADVASU talked on the myths and facts about this deadly disease. Dr. Neeraj Kumar Singh (Animal Biotechnology) discussed about the rabies vaccination. Dr Aulakh informed that the participants have learned many important concepts about rabies, transmission, prevention and control and how to engage communities and make them aware on preventing this deadly disease.

Dr. Inderjeet Singh, Vice-Chancellor GADVASU congratulated the organizers for this endeavour and hoped that it will result in productive research in veterinary and animal sciences to combat this deadly disease.

Dr. J P S Gill, Director Research, GADVASU thanked the speakers Dr Jasmine Dhillon, Dr Daniel Horton, Dr C.K Singh, Dr Sharada and Dr. N K Singh for sparing their valuable time for facilitating this event. Dr. Gill said that such symposia are very helpful for the faculty and post graduate students to learn about the integral parts of One Health approach to solve complex problems such as Rabies.
