Vet Varsity organizes International Webinar on Epigenetics and Vaccine Development in Aquaculture

College of Fisheries (CoF), Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) organized an international webinar on ‘Current Advances in Epigenetics and Vaccine Development in Aquaculture’ in collaboration with Department of

Biotechnology (DoBT), College of Animal Biotechnology (CoABT), GADVASU to strengthen overseas collaboration with eminent scientists, so as to promote research in the said areas for sustainable development of aquaculture sector. With total 1528 registration from different parts of the world (Australia, Bangladesh, Belgium, Indonesia, Kuwait, Nepal, Norway, China, UAE, UK and Zambia), 500 participants attended the webinar, while others joined live streaming on YouTube. Prof. Jorge Fernandes from Nord University, Norway shared his work on epigenetics and presented scope of regulating fish genes through environmental manipulation for higher growth and production, besides highlighting use of epigenetics in disease resistance, brood stock development and sex ratio regulation. To curtail use of harmful chemical therapeutics in aquaculture, promising techniques for developing vaccines, including prospective use of bio-films, were discussed by Dr. Azad I.S., Research Scientist from Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research. Interaction between the world renowned aquaculture scientist, Dr. A. Eknath, Former Director,Network of Aquaculture Centres in Asia-Pacific (NACA) , Bangkok (Thailand) & ICAR-Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture (CIFA) , Bhubaneswar, Odisha (India) and the speakers was a visual treat for all the participants. Dr. S.M. Shivaprakash (Patron), former Dean CoF, Managluru (Karnataka) also addressed the audience with a remarkable talk on ‘Impact of COVID-19 on Fisheries” and a motivational poem to win over the pandemic. Quiz competition was also conducted between technical sessions to adjudge the best active participation awards. Congratulating the organizers for attracting a prodigious international audience in the said webinar, Dr. J.P.S. Gill (Chief patron), Director of Research and Dr. K.S. Sandhu (Patron), Dean CoF (GADVASU) impressed to brace international and national ties for capacity building for up scaling R&D programs to evolve innovative organic solutions for aquaculture development at regional, national and global levels. After concluding remarks by Dr. Meera D. Ansal (Head, Aquaculture), CoF and Dr. R.S. Sethi (Head, DoBT), the webinar ended with vote of thanks. The webinar was designed, anchored and executed by Dr. Shanthanagouda with a team of coordinators including, Dr. Prabhugouda S. from Nord University, Norway; and Dr. Prabjeet Singh, Dr. Anuj Tyagi, Dr. Naveen Kumar BT and Dr. Jitendra Kumar from CoF, GADVASU.
