To brush up young minds of undergraduate students to understand effects of ongoing COVID – Lockdown on fisheries sector, an on-line national poster making competition entitled “Impact of COVID-19 on Fisheries” was conducted by College of Fisheries of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University. It was organised under ICAR’s NAHEP- Institutional Development Plan (IDP). B.F.Sc, students from different Fisheries Colleges across the country were invited to participate in the event, through wide circulation among various social media tools.

An overwhelming response was received from all over India, with 62 entries from 20 universities, showcasing impacts of COVID pandemic on aquaculture activities and industrial breakdown, besides highlighting positive effects of lockdown on natural aquatic resources. All the entries were critically

evaluated with respect to presentation, theme, originality and clarity of expression by an expert panel, including fine arts experts and scientists, to select top three posters. Poster submitted by Ishita.J. Bambhaniya of College of Fisheries Science, Veraval, Junagadh Agricultural University was declared 1st, while posters of Mitila Milind Mirajkar from College of Fisheries, Ratnagiri, Dr. Balasaheb Sawant Konkan Krishi Vidyapeeth and Merin Treesa Varghese from Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies, Kochi, Kerala were adjudged 2nd and 3rd, respectively.
The competition was held under the guidance of Dr. Parkash Singh Brar, Principal Investigator of IDP & Dean, College of Veterinary Science, GADVASU and was coordinated by Dr. S.N. Datta of College of Fisheries. Dr. Kulbir Singh Sandhu, Dean, College of Fisheries applauded the university IDP cell for organizing such brain storming events for undergraduate students and besides congratulating the winners, he also appreciated all the students who participated in the event.
