KVK, S.A.S. Nagar (Mohali) organised one week off-campus vocational training on ‘value addition to farm produce and entrepreneurship development at village Khizarabad, Block Majri. The training was sponsored
under RKVY-11 scheme “Inclusive Growth in Livestock, Dairy and Fishery Farming through Technological interventions in Punjab”. Twenty females belonging to scheduled caste community attended this training program. On Inaugural day, training coordinator Dr. Parul Gupta, Assistant Professor (Home Science) apprised the farm women regarding the main aim of this training program. She also discussed about various activities/trainings carried out by KVK for the benefits of women and farmers. Dr. Munish Sharma, Assistant Professor (Horticulture) gave detailed lectures on kitchen gardening and importance of fruits and vegetables for human health. Dr. Parul Gupta, Assistant Professor (Home Science) discussed the importance of value addition of farm produce and gave method demonstrations on preparation of different types of value added products (Tomato Sauce, Lemon Squash, Lemon Pickle, Garlic Pickle, Black Carrot Kanji, Halwa, Haldi Pickle, Panjeri, Ladoo etc.). She also encouraged women trainees to form a Self-Help Group for the sale of Value added products. Deputy Director, KVK, Dr. Yashwant Singh emphasised on the care and management of dairy animals. On the last day of the training, certificates and inputs like literature and magazine were distributed to the participants. The participants appreciated the efforts of the KVK for conducting this training and urged to organize more value added trainings in the near future also.
