Training cum Awareness programme on Energy Efficiency in Agriculture by KVK, Tarn Taran

The Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Tarn Taran organised a training cum awareness programme entitled on Energy Efficiency and Conservation in Agriculture sponsored by Bureau of Energy Efficiency, Govt of India and Punjab Energy Development Authority at KVK Tarn Taran Campus wherein 175 farmers, farm women and students from different villages participated.

The Chief Agriculture Officer, Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ welfare, Tarn Taran was chief guest of the programme whereas Er Rohit Kumar, Project Engineer, PEDA, Chandigarh was special guest of the programme.  In inaugural session, Dr Balwinder Kumar, Deputy Director (T), KVK, Tarn Taran welcomes the guests & participants and introduced in brief about the programme on energy efficiency and allied sectors. Dr Kumar highlighted about different techniques of energy saving in agriculture.  Er Rohit Kumar discussed in detail about different types of energy and its conservation through efficient utilization by following different techniques.  He guided farmers about purchasing of electronic items with star rating and advised to run AC at 24-25o at homes and offices. Solar panels should be used as government is providing subsidy for its popularization. Dr Harinderjit Singh, CAO enlightened about conservation of

various natural resources.  Dr. Parminder Kaur, Scientist, FASC, PAU, Tarn Taran highlighted that how farmers can reduce expenses on costly pesticides input and increase efficiency by its efficient utilization.  Piverjeet Kaur Dhillon, Assistant Professor (Home Science) discussed in detail about solar dryer and solar cooker functioning and also demonstrated its functioning for preparing various edible items at home. An exhibition of energy saving technologies was put by KVK and literature developed by KVK Tarn Taran & GADVASU, Ludhiana was distributed to the farmers.
