Vet Varsity Organizes Teaching Workshop for Mid -Career Teachers

To upgrade the teaching standards of the university to the international level a Teaching Workshop was organized by the College of Veterinary Science, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, (GADVASU) Ludhiana, in collaboration with University of Calgary, Canada. Dr. Baljit Singh, Dean Faculty of Veterinary Medicine,

Dr. Amy Warren, Assistant Dean, Teaching and Learning, University of Calgary were the resource persons for this workshop. A total of 25 teachers from College of Veterinary Science, College of Dairy Science and Technology and College of Fisheries and College of Animal Biotechnology participated in the workshop and interacted with the experts to hone their professional teaching skills. Effective teaching techniques, ways to assess performance of students and teachers, setting of question papers, management of time were the sessions of main attraction to participants. The participants were excited to inculcate practices discussed in workshop to adopt in their day to day teaching.   

Dr. PS Brar, Dean, College of Veterinary Science informed that, it was brainchild of Dr. AS Nanda, Vice-Chancellor. Dr. Brar emphasized on need of such workshops for effective teaching in

professional colleges where teachers do not undergo any special training for teaching. He stressed on the importance of modern teaching modules and their role in effective communication between a teacher and student. Dr. JPS Gill, Director Research, gave a glimpse of GADVASU collaborations with the foreign institutes and its standing in the institutional ranking. Dr S K Uppal, Dean Postgraduate Studies, stressed on improving the student teacher relationships as

was in old Gurukul system. Dr Baljit Singh Gill mentioned the ongoing collaborations between University of Calgary and GADVASU and underlined significance of teaching ability and development of teaching skills in young professionals. Dr. RS Sethi, Professor and Head, Department of Animal Biotechnology conducted day to day activities of the workshop.
