Department of Veterinary Surgery & Radiology, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana successfully completed national level training program on “Small animal soft tissue surgery”. This training was the 3rd in the series of human resource development initiative under the All India Network Program on “Diagnostic Imaging and management of surgical conditions in Animals”. Dr. Jitender Mohindroo, Professor cum Head of the department informed that a total of 62 applications were received for this training program, out of which 15 veterinarians were selected. These veterinarians were field practitioners and veterinary officers from states including Odisha, Punjab, Delhi, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and West Bengal. Dr Tarunbir Singh, Scientist and Jasmeet Singh Khosa, Assistant Professor were the coordinators of the training program.
Dr. Mohindroo informed that, the treatment of all major and minor soft tissue diseases and orthopaedics procedures are being performed using latest instrumentation. The training was aimed to impart knowledge about treatment strategies for small animal patients and their application at field level. The curriculum of the training program was fabricated to impart practical know how, hands on training and lectures on the soft tissue procedures like gastrointestinal obstruction, urinary tract diseases, spay procedures for animal birth control and endoscopic procedures. Dr. SS Singh, Hospital Superintendent, an internationally renowned soft tissue surgeon, presided the concluding function and distributed certificates and compendia to the trainees. He encouraged trainees to excel in their fields and use the knowledge gained, for the betterment of animals.
It is pertinent to mention that Department of Surgery is recognised as Centre of Advanced Faculty Training by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research. The Department is known for its highly experienced faculty, most of whom are trained from reputed international institutes. The Department has developed state of art X-Ray and Ultrasound unit with modern facilities like digital radiography and 3D/4D ultrasonography for small and large animal patients.
