Vet Varsity conducts International workshop on “Presenting research to scientific audience”

A two-day international workshop on “Presenting your research to a scientific audience” was inaugurated by Dr J.P.S Gill, Director of Research, College of Veterinary Science, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana. He opined that it would be helpful for the post graduate students to boost their research skills from planning their participation and presentations in conferences, symposia and workshops.

The workshop is to be held from Jan 24 to 25 at the School of Public Health and Zoonosis in collaboration with University of Saskatchewan, Canada. Dr JPS Gill informed that overseas speakers from the University of Saskatchewan, Canada, University of Calgary, Canada, University of Sydney, Australia, US Department of Agriculture, USA and Statens Serum Institute, Denmark will deliver their lectures online. They will talk about the importance of conferences, preparation and presentation, and networking at the meetings. On the first day, Dr. Emily Jenkins talked about “Networking and hallway conversations: why present at conferences? Dr Peter Thompson from USDA has discussed about the Do’s and Don'ts of Poster Presentations. Dr Pikka from Denmark talked about how to do correspondence with organizer of a conference.

Dr RS Aulakh, Director, School of Public Health, and the co-ordinator of this workshop, mentioned that there will be hands on practice on preparation of poster and oral presentations as well as presenting research findings to scientific audience. He also told that the School of Public Health & Zoonoses has a collaborative research association with the University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon, Canada, and The University of Sydney, Australia. GADVASU and the University of Saskatchewan signed an MOU to promote, strengthen and expand mutual contacts and collaborative research activities between both universities. Organizing workshops, and summer/winter schools is an integral part of these collaborative activities. He informed that more than 60 postgraduate students from various departments of GADVASU will attend this workshop and will take benefits from this workshop.

Dr. AS Nanda, Vice-Chancellor, GADVASU congratulated the organizes for this endeavour and hoped that the workshop participants will apply the skills learnt in the workshop in their research work.
