National Training on Anaesthesia concludes at Vet Varsity

The Department of Veterinary Surgery and Radiology, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana has successfully organized an Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) sponsored training program “Hands on Practice in Small Animal Anaesthesia” for the skill enhancement of 15 veterinary practitioners / surgeons working in Punjab, Haryana, Himachal, Rajasthan, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand states of India. Dr. Jitender Mohindroo, Professor-cum-Head was the course Director while Dr. Arun Anand, Professor and Dr. Ashwani Kumar, Associate Professor were course co-ordinators for this training.

 Dr Mohindroo, informed that the department is working as collaborating centre of the All India Network Program on “Diagnostic imaging and management of surgical conditions in animals” of ICAR since 2014 and the Human resource Development is one of the important mandate of this project. Till date department has successfully conducted 5 short training programs on various aspects of veterinary anaesthesia, surgery and radiology under the project and this was the sixth in the series. The training course had been designed to emphasize on hands on training / practical aspects of anaesthesia in small animals. Lectures and demonstrations on recent concepts of patient evaluation, pre-anaesthetic considerations, patient preparation for anaesthesia, induction and maintenance of general anaesthesia including monitoring, management of anaesthetic emergencies and pain management were discussed. More emphasis was laid on monitoring and recording of vital parameters to avoid untoward complications.

Dr Simrat Sagar Singh, Ex Dean Post Graduate Studies GADVASU congratulated the faculty on the successful conduct of the training program. The department has been recognized as Centre of Advanced Faculty Training since 1994 and has established excellent facilities and expertise for clinical activities, teaching, training and research, he added.
